From Karting Activities to Academic Innovation: LIC–UDST Partnership Highlights a Dynamic June at Lusail International Circuit
Lusail International Circuit (LIC) capped off a dynamic month in June with the signing of a partnership with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST). This major step in talent development came amid a high-energy month that included the dramatic finale of the 2025 Qatar Karting Championship, ongoing community fitness events, and initiatives promoting inclusion and youth engagement—cementing LIC’s role as both a motorsport hub and a driver of social impact in Qatar.
The month began with test sessions on June 1 ahead of Round 4 of the Qatar Karting Championship, held on June 2–3. The five-round championship, organized by QMMF and supported by the Qatar Motorsports Academy, took place on LIC’s 1.124 km karting circuit, showcasing Qatar's dedication to grassroots motorsport. The fourth round saw a fierce battle between front-runners, with Tameem Hassiba securing a critical victory by just 0.185 seconds over Omar Aswat. Consistent performances from Aleksei Guzov and Karim Rizkallah, finishing third and fourth respectively, tightened the title race heading into the championship finale.
Just two weeks later, Round 5 of the championship unfolded on June 15–16, delivering one of the most closely contested challenges. Karim Rizkallah edged out Tameem Hassiba by a mere 0.152 seconds to claim his second victory of the season, while Owen Morris celebrated his first podium finish in third.
Tameem Hassiba won the 2025 Qatar Karting Championship with 80 points, securing Grand Final wins in Rounds 2 and 4. Karim Rizkallah was second with 72 points, winning Rounds 3 and 5. Mohammed Al Thani placed third with 58 points, achieving podiums in Rounds 1, 2, and 3.
In addition to its racing calendar, LIC continued to promote fitness and wellbeing through its Mixed Training Days, which returned on June 18 and 25. These popular community events invited cyclists and runners of all fitness levels to train under the lights of Qatar’s Formula 1® circuit. Over 5.38 km of professional-grade tarmac, participants enjoyed a safe and inspiring venue to pursue their personal fitness goals.
The month’s highlight saw LIC taking a significant step forward for education and innovation, signing a strategic partnership with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) on 22 June. The collaboration will provide students with practical learning opportunities in motorsport engineering, event operations, and sports management. This initiative reflects LIC’s growing commitment to talent development and knowledge exchange, strengthening Qatar’s position as a leader in the region’s sports and education sectors.
June also featured a Ladies Training Day on June 24, offering women and young children an exclusive opportunity to jog or cycle in a private and supportive environment. With dedicated rules ensuring safety and comfort, this initiative reflected LIC’s commitment to inclusivity and female empowerment through sport and wellness.
Public karting sessions continued to draw local enthusiasts throughout the month, spanning from every Wednesday to Saturday with 12 open days hosted throughout the month on the LIC karting track. These sessions provide an accessible entry point into motorsport, offering the community hands-on racing experiences in a safe and professional setting.
June’s programming solidified Lusail International Circuit’s dual legacy: a championship-grade venue delivering elite-level competition, and a community platform that continues to break ground with inclusive, family-friendly events. With world-class facilities and a clear outlook aligned with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, LIC remains at the forefront of sport and social impact in the region.
