Rob Frijns relished the moments of being on top of the podium as he won the third round of the Qatar National Road Racing Championship. At the Losail International Circuit on Saturday (March 6), the Dutch cruised past the finish line in Porsche, winning the 10-lap race with a gap of nearly 13 seconds.
In the last round, Frijns was on the pole too but he could not take advantage of it and was beaten to the second place by series leader Hamad Jassim Al Naama in Nissan.
Frijns, however, ensured he won the race this time, though Al Naama, who had the 10th fastest time in the 13-driver grid, had produced an exciting charge through the field. Frijns clinched the race by 12.937 seconds. Farhan Marwan Musabeh, driving Mitsubishi, was a distant third.
The win pushed Frijns (35 points) to the third place in the standings, which is headed by Al Naama. Musabeh, who has 39 points, is 16 points behind the leader. Fahad Arhama Al Kuwari, who was fourth in the race, is also holding the fourth spot, being five points adrift of Frijns.
After the race, a protest was lodged. Due to revision of the result, the fifth place was granted to Mohammad Shaheen Al Aseeri, relegating Lebanese Wissam Assaf to the sixth place.
